A Very Special Tribute
Last weekend the SOB’s and our mother Diane were invited to a special unveiling of a tribute car built in honor of our father. To rewind a little bit, shortly after our father passed earlier this year Duane Mayer had left the shop and went on to work for West Coast Customs and share with them his hot rod building expertise. The new season of Street Customs was about to start filming at West Coast Customs and Duane had an idea for a tribute car. One of the last vehicle designs my dad had an idea for was an early Barracuda. The rendering had been done but that is as far as it went. Well Duane had an old cuda that would be the perfect canvas to create a tribute car to our dad. The idea was thrown out to Ryan and the gang and soon enough they were set off on building the car. I can’t give you much details about the car yet, you’ll have to wait for the next season of Street Customs to air on TLC early next year, but I’ll fast forward to the event where the SOBs and our mother got invited to the special unveiling.
At the SEMA show this year I ran into the Ian Jones, the old producer of American Hot Rod, who is now producing Street Customs and he said he filled me in on what was going on with the car and what he wanted to do for the unveiling. After a few discussions he decided to invite the SOBs and Diane down to the NHRA Museum in Pomona, CA to film the unveiling of the car. The event was very nice and having it at the NHRA museum was extra special. Friends and old co-workers along with all the West Coast Custom crew were gathered to show us their special tribute to our father. After Ryan said some really nice words they uncovered the car. We are were pleasantly surprised at what they had created. Under Duane’s supervision they were able to produce a really clean car that my dad would have been proud of. It was a combination of Duane’s eye for hot rods with a West Coast Customs feel to it.
We really appreciated the effort Duane and Ryan and the gang put into this cuda. It really came out nice. We’re looking forward to watching the build unfold on TV next season. For more info on the Cuda stay tuned to www.westcoastcustoms.com
