Savini Forged and Boyd Coddington Team Up For Modular Niche Wheels

ANAHEIM, CA, November 06, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ — The new wheels targeted at the Muscle Car, and Pro Touring markets are forged billet centers, are constructed of 6061 aluminum alloy, and contribute great strength while keeping weight low for your high performance machine. In addition, 6061 alloy is more resistant to surface corrosion then 5000 series alloys. The added ductility makes for a wheel with a long lifespan, even when punished by a modern G-machine. The strength, durability, and elegance of these forged centers are designed using exhaustive testing and proprietary forging and heat-treating techniques. Exceeding JWL, DOT, and SAE standards, a wheel center forged from 6061 alloy can withstand fatigue resting to maximum load with no loss of strength and with a total absence of any type of failure or deterioration, making them your best choice for any quality three-piece modular wheel. The rim shells are TPMS compatible, CNC-machined, and able to absorb the horsepower of today’s Hot Rods and Muscle Cars. The new wheel line will supply 18, 19, 20, and 22-inch diameters with widths from 7 to 15 inches.

These superior forged wheels will meet nearly any high performance or custom need with classic Boyd Coddington style. “At Genuine Boyds, ‘high tech’ is a serious commitment to state of the art quality derived from up-to-the-minute technology, not just a buzzword for add-on styling”, said Boyd Coddington, Jr., President of Genuine Boyds, Coddington continued, “SAVINI is the leader in the three piece wheel industry. Their commitment to quality and design make them the perfect partner to produce our three piece wheels for the Hot Rod, Muscle Car, and Pro Touring markets.”
SAVINI Forged Wheels offers custom virtual fitment to accommodate all vehicle applications. In addition, custom finishes such as chrome, brushed aluminum, carbon fiber, and custom colors are easily accommodated. SAVINI/Boyds wheels are CNC machined and assembled and checked with CMM quality control in house.
Greg Kim, President of SAVINI, said: “The excitement is high as this new wheel team gears up for the SEMA show, and prepares to supply the Hot Rod and Performance enthusiasts with state of the art construction and performance, while meeting the needs for classic ‘Hot Rod’ style.

The Boyd Hauler gets a makeover
Posted in All Posts, In the News, New Projects by Boyd | Tags: Featured, New Projects, Van Hauler
Back in 1993 at the height of the sport truck movement Boyd Sr. took on a project for Eddie Van Halen to build him a truck that he could run around in. Eddie wanted a Boyd Coddington built sport truck. So the Chip Foose drawn ‘Boyd Hauler’ was born. The Boyd Hauler featured an LT-1 engine, Corvette independent rear suspension, billet grille, smooth front bumpers and rear roll pan. What added the Van Halen touch were the red paint and asymetrical wheels and graphics that matched the signature Eddie Van Halen Frankenstein Guitar paint scheme.
Well after 16 years the truck has found it’s way over to American Hot Rods in Orange, CA. American Hot Rods is owned by Dwayne Mayer and Bernt Karlson. Dwayne contacted Boyd Jr. to get the wheels updated to a larger 20-inch diameter wheel and newer style guitar inspired graphics. The truck is currently being worked on at American Hot Rods and will be ready to take to the Barret-Jackson auction in Scottsdale next year. Stay tuned for more updates.
